Children and Young People

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin has set out a clear and strong commitment to supporting young people in our region. In his Police and Crime Plan, he emphasises the importance of early intervention, community engagement and support for victims, particularly for young people who may be vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, or involvement in crime.

The Commissioner’s strategy includes several key objectives aimed at improving outcomes for young people:

  • Promoting early intervention and prevention to reduce youth crime.
  • Establishing safe and inclusive environments for youth development.
  • Building trust and dialogue between young people and police services.
  • Supporting victims, especially those affected by exploitation or domestic abuse.

Young Ambassadors Programme

The North Wales Young Ambassadors Programme invites individuals aged between 16 and 24 to contribute to youth-focused policing policy. Through this initiative, participants:

  • Advise police officers on matters affecting young people.
  • Provide insight and scrutiny on incidents and police powers involving youth.
  • Engage in public forums and community development.
  • Develop leadership, advocacy, and communication skills.

Young Ambassadors meet regularly with senior police personnel and play an important role in shaping youth policy. The programme is committed to inclusivity and encourages applicants from all backgrounds, including those with lived experience of the criminal justice system.

Further details about the Young Ambassadors Programme can be found on the North Wales Police website.

North Wales Youth Commission Report

The North Wales Youth Commission (NWYC) allowed young people aged 14-25 years to work in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner and North Wales Police to tackle urgent issues. The project represents a new approach in engaging young people across North Wales to shape future policing and crime prevention strategies, and support the development of the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.
